Orbi RBR 50 has problems with my new ATT Fiber gateway
Hello Techy People,
I could really use your help!
I am NOT a technical user but I need some help in fixing a problem. My "help support" that was free through Orbi expired 10 days ago, and I really don't want to pay $89 for their help desk to be honest.
We recently upgraded our home to ATT fiber which is supposed to be faster but we are having a ton of issues with it talking to the Orbi...or at least that's what I think is going on. I've seen several inquiries on the forum regarding a gateway issue, but because I'm not technical, I don't understand the steps to fix this.
Would someone kindly help a non-techy person fix this in the most laymans terms! :)
Thanks,
Dina
What is the Mfr and model# of the Internet Service Providers modem/ONT the NG router is connected too? Built in router and wifi here? If so, This would be a double NAT (two router) condition which isn't recommended. https://kb.netgear.com/30186/What-is-Double-NAT

Couple of options,
1. Configure the modem for transparent bridge or modem only mode. Then use the Orbi router in router mode. You'll need to contact the ISP for help and information in regards to the modem being bridged correctly.
2. If you can't bridge the modem, disable ALL wifi radios on the modem, configure the modems DMZ/ExposedHost or IP Pass-Through for the IP address the Orbi router gets from the modem. Then you can use the Orbi router in Router mode.
3. Or disable all wifi radios on the modem and connect the Orbi router to the modem, configure AP mode on the Orbi router. https://kb.netgear.com/31218/How-do-I-configure-my-Orbi-router-to-act-as-an-access-point and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H7LOcJ8GdDo&app=desktopI recommend trying option #3 first. Contact your ISP for help and information about the ISP gateway.

FURRYe38 steered you correct. Att usually installs modem/router combo devices. And they're horrible at letting them run properly in passthrough/modem only mode. Most people on att have to resort to putting their orbi in AP mode.

Yes that a modem gateway router.
Simplest method would be AP mode on the Orbi system:Disable all wifi radios on the modem and connect the Orbi router to the modem, configure AP mode on the Orbi router. https://kb.netgear.com/31218/How-do-I-configure-my-Orbi-router-to-act-as-an-access-point and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H7LOcJ8GdDo&app=desktop

I don't know all the details, but YES it's a modem and WiFi router combo.
I've attached a picture of the back of the modem...does this make sense to you?

Thank you so much!!
Okay...it looks like there are several plans to help remedy the situation. Thank goodness! Per the links that you have attached to your reply. Which do you recommend I start with first?
I really do appreciate everyone's help!!!

Again, FURRYe38 was correct. Its a combo device. Try running the orbi in AP (access point) mode.
