Orbi RBR50 2.7.0.70 is "out"
Heard reports that this was pushed to some users.
It is available at the usual links.
Like 2.5.2.4 there are no release notes.
Orbi RBR50 support site still claims 2.5.1.16 as the official version.
Use at your own risk.

I have not tried this version. With my kids in school now, at home, I can't be quite as cavalier with upgrades as I was during the summer. While I work from home, if I hosed the internet with an upgrade, I could always hotspot with my phone as a backup. I can't do that for my whole house in school now. Maybe on the weekend I'll give this a shot.

Haven't used 2.7.0.70 myself either, but there is also some discussion of this new firmware version and support for new NETEGAR Smart Parental Controls (SPC) in this thread: https://community.netgear.com/t5/Orbi/Circle-quot-Something-Went-Wrong-quot-on-new-RBR50-install/m-p/1955125/highlight/true#M99232
For users, this are not official user links either. Only used by the Orbi system. Users should be aware. IF it's not on NG official download site, then it's not officially released. Use at your own risk.
2.7.0.70 appeared as an update on my IOS Orbi app this morning. As others have mentioned I found nothing about this firmware release on Netgear's website.

Looking at the filename of the zip files, this firmware is meant for RBK53 V2 model.
So they are meant for RBR50V2 router and RBS50V2 Satellite.
It may cause issues if trying to install on a V1 version.
However the official downlaod site still shows 2.5.1.16
For those that may be confused about what version they have, the V1 has USB ports, the V2 does NOT.
- Bin888AspirantSuddenly there's a red button UPDATE shows up in my Orbi app, looks like it's just for the satellite.
Since 16 is working fine, I am very reluctant to proceed the update. Just got the SKIP option.- RichysGuideThe app update button will update router and satellites

Do not update your Orbi to 2.7.0.70! I had to roll back to 2.5.1.16 after it reset my admin password and failed to update the satellite.

Since the 70 isn't an official firmware update, i am going to skip it until it's official or someone has successfully installed it.
It looks like some people are getting issues with this update and had to roll back to 16.
Yes keep with v16 if you haven't seen this come thru the RBRs web page. I see some are seeing it on the Orbi app. I guess thats fine. NG told me that v2.7 is specific to Circle users. If users are not keen on updating and there systems are working fine, then skip the FW update seen in Orbi app and continue on. Users should not be downloading the files from the auto update links. Wait for official files to be posted on NG download site.

NG is requesting that users do not post links to FW files from the auto update server. These are not meant for general public use and may cause problems. User should be using NGs main download site for any and all FW update files for download.
Thank you.

Well its nice that "NG is requesting that users do not post links to FW files from the auto update server.".
The best method to avoid users doing this is to communicate clearly - something that NG does not seem very good at.
Explaining and communicating what each firmware is providing, who it is targeted at and why, would avoid this wild goose chase.
Having mismatched information between the support website, the product information website, the forums and then something potentially different installed on the actual device is not helpful. Consistent information and firmware rollouts would be a very welcomed improvement.
And instead of NG requesting users to request other users do something, perhaps they could comment directly.
Just a suggestion of course.

Someone should make a STICKY, so everyone at least sees the topic, not to post those URLs, and also warn about the potential damage when manual updates of unofficial firmware are performed. Maybe also add warranty void statement or something similar.

I just udpated to 2.7.0.70 on my RBK50 V1 (RBR50 and RBS50), the FW reseted my admin password I was able to reset the password since i had enable that option on the router setting long time ago. Besides that the FW looks pretty stable so far i guess will have to wait and see. I did the process entire manually since neither the iOS app or the web client was showing any udpates options. I'm not in the US but I used the 2.7.0.70 version anyways and I'm not a circle or user either.
I have to say that i cant believe how difficult is for us user to try to understad adecuate FW udpate process for diferrent versions of our ORBI system, this should be an automatic process for us all even transparent by default and with the working option of disabling auto updates.
I cant believe what a poor FW udpate and information support netgear profides to this $400+ USD device.
I wish they fix this, but honestly if they have not by now i'm sure they wont...
Been 3+ years and counting. :smileyembarrassed:
