Orbi RBR50 in AP mode

Hi there,

I use Orbi RBR50 in AP mode, only for WIFI. It got IP 192.168.1.3 from my regular router (192.168.1.1). Wifi on regular router is already disabled.

Say, I have 2 computers. PC A is wired and connected to the regular router, with IP 192.168.1.8. PC B is wireless and assigned IP 10.0 0.12 by Orbi.

Problem is B is able to reach A, but A can't access (ping) B. Both computers run win11, and ping is enabled by adding firewall rule.

How to fix this? thanks!

  • The Orbi in Access Point mode does not perform DHCP and assign IP addresses.

      that's weird. Then how come my wireless laptop got this 10.0.0.12 IP? Clearly Orbi in AP can do DHCP.

      thanks.

        The clue is in that address. It is a classic sign of "double NAT". Two routers on one network. If router 2 finds another router it will often default to that address range. That address is often an indicator that someone has slapped a router behind a modem/router.

        Some Manuals carry this helpful warning;

        Note: If the router detects a conflict with a WAN IP address, it changes its IP address to 10.0.0.1 or 172.16.5.1.

        In your case, the conflict is router plus router.
