Orbi RBR50 repeated short disconnects.
Good morning all.
I have a weird problem that has only just started, or has only become noticeable recently.
This past weekend, when playing a PvP game on my Android device, it would disconnect from the server 1-3 minutes into the game. this happened all weekend and it is still happening. It can still connect, allow in-program actions to be done (which requires server connection) and connection through the server to another player. It just disconnects for less than a minute.
To give you some backup information, I have Verizon FiOS and use their router as the DNS. I pass the information through a fixed IP to Orbi and use IT as a router as well. I tried AP in the past, but it never worked (see my post from 2020). It has been years since I had problems with it and since I have done any changes in the settings.
Now, like I said, this just started happening. I tried different devices and it still happened. I connected directly to the (weak) Verizon router and it worked no problem, same with the Wireless service.
As an added little thing that may or may not be related, occasionally we get bumped from Youtube TV, crunchyroll or other services. That may just be their servers and not our connection. My wife has also complained about some disruptions during her video conferences recently.
I tried:
- resync
- power off and on
- software reboot
- unplugging just the Orbi for 60 seconds
- unplugging both, then plugging in the Verizon router first, waiting for connection, then plugging in the Orbi
The firmware is up to date.
Another note, it was difficult to login to the Android connection app. It kept asking me to log in, create an account (on two different menus) and would have the spinning circle for a while. I have not accessed it through my PC yet.
Any advice (besides spending $$$ to get another system)?

What Firmware version is currently loaded?
What is the Mfr and model# of the Internet Service Providers modem/ONT the NG router is connected too?
Be sure your using a good quality LAN cable between the modem and router. CAT6 is recommended.Your ISP Modem already has a built in router and wifi. This would be a double NAT (two router) condition which isn't recommended. https://kb.netgear.com/30186/What-is-Double-NAT
https://kb.netgear.com/30187/How-to-fix-issues-with-Double-NAT
Couple of options,
1. Configure the modem for transparent bridge or modem only mode. Then use the Orbi router in router mode. You'll need to contact the ISP for help and information in regards to the modem being bridged correctly.
2. If you can't bridge the modem, disable ALL wifi radios on the modem, configure the modems DMZ/ExposedHost or IP Pass-Through for the IP address the Orbi router gets from the modem. Then you can use the Orbi router in Router mode.
3. Or disable all wifi radios on the modem and connect the Orbi router to the modem, configure AP mode on the Orbi router. https://kb.netgear.com/31218/How-do-I-configure-my-Orbi-router-to-act-as-an-access-point and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H7LOcJ8GdDo&app=desktopTry option #2 first.
How many RBS are deployed?
What is the size of your home? Sq Ft?
What is the distance between the router and 📡 satellite(s)? 30 feet or more is recommended in between RBR and RBS🛰️ to begin with depending upon building materials when wirelessly connected. What channels are you using? Auto? Try setting manual channel 1, 6 or 11 on 2.4Ghz and 40 to 48 channel on 5Ghz.
Any Wifi Neighbors near by? If so, how many?Try disabling the following and see:
Armor, Smart Parental Controls or Circle, Traffic Meter, Daisy Chain, Fast Roaming, IPv6 and Set 20/40Mhz Coexistence to 40Mhz only. Set Short preamble instead of Long preamble modes. Save settings and reboot the router and satellite(s). Under Advanced Tab/Advanced Settings/Wireless SettingsOne User Experience/Configuration:

Thanks Furry, I read this (your standard/auto reply) on some other posts.
1. I tried AP, it didn't work.
2. I have a CAT5, not a CAT6 on the hard-line connection between Verizon and Orbi
3. I am not sure if I can disable the wireless on the Verizon (on the old one, I had to remove the antennae... this one does not have antennae). I will see what I can do with that.
4. I checked the network traffic in my area and the rating was "good". I did a speed test from the browser and from the Orbi app that uses Ookla, no problems on that end.
5. I have 2 satellites. When I reset, it took them a while to reconnect.
6. I have about 50 switches/outlets/smart devices/APs.
7. I have had no real problem with the satellites. I tried the connection right next to the router and confirmed connection to it.
8. I got a new phone, but the problem is on both the new and old phones and only on the Orbi (not on the Verizon or Wireless Network).
I will get on via web access later and get you the other information (specific firmware, DNS settings, etc).
Thanks!

1. I tried AP, it didn't work. Would need to figure out why. AP does work. Configuration is key.
2. I have a CAT5, not a CAT6 on the hard-line connection between Verizon and Orbi. CAT5 is only rated for 100Mpbs. I would get CAT6 ASAP that supports 1000Mpbs which Orbi supports.
3. I am not sure if I can disable the wireless on the Verizon (on the old one, I had to remove the antennae... this one does not have antennae). I will see what I can do with that. Ask the ISP for help on disabling wifi radios on there router.

Be sure to disable the Random MAC address features on these devices while at home.
