RBS40 Randomly Disconnects
I have a RBR40 with a single RBS40 satellite. When it works, it's fine. But randomly the satellite drops off the network. I use it mostly to support a smart TV (connected by cable to the satellite). I have tried resetting the satellite, power cycling it, using the app to reset it all with no luck. The app cannot find the satellite. No status light at all on the satellite. Sometimes a few minutes later the satellite shows up on the app as connected, but still no light.
Why does this thing randomly disconnect? Makes it inconvenient when watching streaming TV and it locks up for no particular reason.

Usual boilerplate questions:
What firmware version do you have on the device?
A number is more useful than "the latest". There may be newer versions, or "hot fixes", that do not show up if you check for new firmware in the browser interface.
If there is one it might also help if you told people the make and model number of the modem/gateway/ONT that sits between this router and the Internet. Is it, by any chance, also a router, with a set of LAN ports on the back?
I ask because a lot of people turn up here trying to put a router behind a modem that is also a router. That can complicate troubleshooting.

While many questions about routers are generic and could be answered anywhere, some things need specialist knowledge.
You might get more help, and find earlier questions and answers specific to your device, in the appropriate section for your hardware. That's probably here:
Orbi - NETGEAR Communities
You might like to search there for messages related to your problem.
In the meantime you could visit the support pages:
Support | NETGEAR
Feed in your model number and check the documentation for your hardware. Look at the label on the device for the model number.
Check for various troubleshooting tips.
You may have done this already. I can't tell from your message.
I mention it because Netgear stopped supplying printed manuals and CD versions some years ago and people sometimes miss the downloads. This problem continues to occur (random disconnects).
Hardware is Orbi RBR40 router, RBS40 satellite.
Model RBK40-100NAS
Router Firmware Version V2.7.4.24
Searching for my product on Support link here gives null results.
Searching for similar issues on Community page here gives no useful advice.
Detail of recovery process (I use the Orbit app on my phone):
- Orbi app shows satellite not connected
- Power cycle satellite
- Use Orbi app to add satellite
- Satellite starts with no light, then is blue for a while. At the end of the process, the satellite has no light.
- At the end of the process, the Orbi app says it could not find any satellite. But then I go back to the TV, hit 'enter' on the main control, and service is restored.
- Orbi app now shows satellite is connected. There is no light glowing on the satellite. Everything functions fine, download speed is good.
You missed this bit:

I ask because a lot of people turn up here trying to put a router behind a modem that is also a router. That can complicate troubleshooting. There is a Cox-provided modem, Arris model TM3402A with a single ehternet port connected directly to the Orbi router. So that just looks like a modem, no router function that I can see. Note that we just had this modem replaced a month ago as internet speeds occasionally dropped to very low levels. But the Orbi satellite drop outs have been occurring for over a year.
Thanks
