Router restarts itself

For about a month now my Router will shut down and restart on its own. My connection speed also drops from about 120 mbps to 40mbps. Any help is appreciated. If there is any thing else needed please ask I will try my best. I use this in my home.

Equipment/devices

  1. Router: Netgear Orbi RBK40

  2. Modem: Technicolor MTA DPC3216

  3. Firmware Version: 2.1.4.16

Steps I've tried

  1. Factory reset

  2. Firmware update

  3. Three various ethernet cables

  4. I have looked in various other forums.

Any wifi neighbors near by? If so, how many?

What channels are you using on the router? Try 1, 6 or 11 on 2.4Ghz.

    Set WPA2 and AES only.

Are wired speed tests with a PC and browser any good?

What wireless devices are you testing wireless speeds with?

Besure your ISP serivces are working well and the modem is working well. Have the ISP check signal levels up to the modem.

It is set to WPA2 and AES only. I am using my desktop pc wireless to test my connection. My modem is showing that it is all well. When I go to check what happened after my signal drop my modem shows that all lights are on. But the orbi is restarting as in it is pulsing white. As for the channel I left it on auto.

Might try the following. Re-load the same FW file again. This time, do a factory reset of the Orbi router and set up from scratch.

    Leave the satellite turned off.

Test the Orbi router along with your PC, do both wireless and wired speed tests with a browser.

I would contact NG support or return the system.

My router was fine until I booted up my desktop pc which is connected through wifi, could there be anything that happens to cause this? It started when I tried to download a game to play.

Does the same thing happen on 2.4Ghz if you can get it to connect there?

What is the Mfr and model# of the wireless adapter in this PC?

Try changing manual channels on 5Ghz as well.

Did you disable MIMO, Daisy Chaing and Fast Roaming on the router, save settings and reboot?

Daisy Chain is for two or more stallites to piggy back of one another in a chain.

MIMO is for devices that support Multi Input Multi Output wifi connections. No all devices or adapters support this.

Fast Roaming is for some devices that can connect and have the abilty to move to a better signal source when needed. Also not supported on some devices.

Why would this only be affecting me now after almost half a year with the orbi?
