Satellite (RBR20) Loses Connection - No Light Indicating any Issue

Hello,

For the past couple of months my satellite has been losing connection to the router once every couple of days (2nd time today though!) and there is no light on the satellite indicating any issue. My desktop PC is wire connected to the satellite (which loses connection) but other devices connected through WiFi (directly to the router) stay connected.

Sometimes it is sufficient to press the sync button on the satellite, sometimes I have to press the sync button on the router too.

Satellite and router run Firmware V2.5.1.16

It's frustrating that customer support for a $300 system ends after one year and there seem to be frequent issues with the devices (mine is now close to two years old). Most "solved" cases indicate that people switched to other products (reminds me of the FitBit community)

I paper clip reset the Satellite last Sunday and have not had a disconnect between router and satellite since (6 days).

    Great news!

Most of the time rebooting and resetting these devices eliminates the problems, that users are having, caused by the Orbi. Unfortunately they are so tired of hearing the suggestion ovrer and over, that they stay frustrated  a lot longer than it takes to just do a Reboot or Factory Reset.

  • How far is the satellite from the orbi router?

That could be an issue. Also check the cable from the PC to the satellite, as logically if the satellite still gives you WIFI, the PC should still be connected. What are the settings on the PC at the time of the disconnect. Is the PC showing a temporary 69.x.x.x IP address? If so try going static and assingn an IP address, not being used, on the PC. Sometimes NICs can be stubborn, due to drivers. When this happens I force an IP address to the PC. It's easier than changing out the NIC.

The satellite is about 25ft from the router but both have been in their place from the very beginning and it worked fine for the first 16 months or so.

I get the globe on the desktop with the LAN connection (need to check the IP address when it happens next) but also on my laptop that sits on my desk that connects to the satellite via WiFi. My wife with her laptop near the router (WiFi connection) keeps working without any issues.

When you get the globe on the desktop, go to your network settings and see what IP addreess your PC is on. If it is 169.x.x.x the PC is not getting an IP address from your DHCP server. If you are running Windows open a DOS prompt and type ipconfig /flushdns. You can also run troubleshooter. You also have the option of using a static ip address on the PC.

Have you reset and reconfigured the satellite to see if it corrects the problem?

  • I have similar issue. The connect dropped frequently. I noticed that it happened after the installation of firmware v2.5.1.16. Is there anyway to go back the previous version?

After you upgraded to 2.5.1.16 did you reboot your system? If you have satellites, dod they upgrade as well?

I have many many systems running on 2.1.1.15 with no issues. Most all of them upgraded from the previous firmware. After firmware update, I only had to reboot the systems.
