Adding a static L2 multicast address

Hi,

I'm trying to enable multicast L2 address routing for specific Mac-Add- 01:50:43:00:00:03 (this is used by a propreitary discovery protocol on my setup). When I attempt to add this address, I get the failure of "Error! Failed to create Static MAC Address". See screenshot below.

I was able to add the address of 02:50:43:00:00:03 (unicast address). It is seen in the screenshot.

I did disable IGMP and MLD snooping- it didn't help.

I didn't find any way to edit the MFDB.

switch FW is  12.0.11.18.

Could you advise?

Thanks a lot!

Elad

  • Elad6L,

I apologize for the late response. Could it be that the feature you are looking for is MAC Filtering?  If yes, go to Security > Traffic Control > MAC Filter.  It basically allows the user to set a static MFDB entry.

If ever you are not looking for MAC Filtering, kindly provide further details about what you want to implement as well as how are the devices are connected.  It would be best if you post a detailed diagram of your network setup.

    Elad6L,

Let us try this.  Kindly update the firmware of your M4300-24X switch from v12.0.11.18 to the latest version which is v12.0.13.7.  Then, check if the same problem will occur.

You can download firmware v12.0.13.7 here

      Thank you DaneA .

FW was updated to 12.0.13.7. issue still persists.

      could you further advise?

Again I was trying to add this multicast address though switching->address table->advanced->static address table. is this the correct method?
