Are router or switch ports programmable to turn on and off at certain times
I would like to be able to find a switch or router whereby I can program one of the external ethernet ports to turn on and off on a timed schedule on a certain day (s) and time of the week. Does anyone know if this exists in current managed switches, routers, or other devices? If not, is there an accessory which can perform this function? I was wondering if this type of setup can work as an Air Gap backup scheme.

Welcome to the community! :)
I'm afraid to inform you that there is no NETGEAR Switch or Router that has the capability to program one of the external ethernet ports to turn on and off on a timed schedule on a certain day (s) and time of the week.

Thank you for the question and the answer here!
Let me bring some more info, as turning a port on and off can mean several things, though.
All NETGEAR fully managed switches (www.netgear.com/managed) including your M4100 switch mentioned in this thread, and the newer M4200, M4250 and M4300 series come with Time-Based ACLs in the GUI and in the CLI. It is not turning a port on and off at the link level, but it can simply let a schedule apply to an ACL with simple rule like "deny any any" which will, when activated by the schedule, block any packet in any direction (ingress and egress) possibly on M4250/M4300, or in one direction (ingress) on M4100. Effectively, it would prevent any Ethernet communication based on a schedule, maybe it could help your use case?
Alternatively, if the devices are PoE powered, most switches also can enable/diable PoE based on a schedule, which can maybe help too.

Thank you for your reply. I asked this question to see if we could simulate an air gap backup but not have to physically remove the backup drive. It sounds like from your description that the timed ACL capability of certain Netgear switches could essentially mirror the disconnect for certain time periods the same way as physically removing a drive. Does this make sense to you as well.
