GS108Ev3 and Uverse NVG599 compatability
Anybody have experience with how to get this switch to see the internet? ATT says no switches behind the gateway are allowed. I just cannot believe that. I searched and searched and found some commen...

Kindly answer the questions below:
a. Make sure that the GS108Ev3 switch is connected to the Uverse NVG599 then connect a PC directly to the GS108Ev3 switch. Are you able to get replies when you ping a website like google.com through the GS108Ev3 switch?
b. Are you getting a valid IP address on the PC while its connected to the GS108Ev3 switch?
c. Are you able to get replies when you ping the LAN IP address of the Uverse NVG599 (which is the default gateway) on a PC that is directly to the GS108Ev3 switch?
d. Are you using the GS108Ev3 just like an unmanaged switch?
e. What is the current firmware of the GS108Ev3 switch?

Hello, here are your answers.
1) No, I cannot ping websites. Response is "ping request could not find host www.google.com. Please check the name and try again."
2) Running ipconfig dispays a valid IPv4 address
3) Yes, when I directly connect a Cat 5 cable from the PC to the NVG599 I can ping and get a response from the Uverse LAN IP (192.168.1.254)
4) The question is hard to answer. Out of the box, the Prosafe Utility could not find the switch, even if it was directly connected to the PC and no wireless adapter involved (Desktop unit with USB Wireless Adapter unplugged). I had to disable the firewall, understandable. However, after a refresh, I would get an error stating that the switch and Manager IP address are not in the same subnet. This caused me to disable DHCP and assign the right number in the third octet. (0 to 1) for both the IP address and the Gateway address. That would allow me access to the switch if I wanted to make a configuration change. Then I connected the switch to the Uverse Gateway and the PC. When performing a refresh in Prosafe, I get an error saying that it cannot access the Netgear Registration server. That tells me it cannot get past the gateway. I updated the firmware to 2.00.08 from 2.00.07 just to see if that would solve the problem. But to no avail. I can ping the PC and the Uverse gateway, but thats it. Using a browser I can access the Uverse configuration page through the switch, however I have no idea what to do there. I am not that network savvy. Something tells me the issue relies with the Gateway configuration, but I don't know that for sure. Inside the Uverse confiruation menus I see a Home Network Tab, and under that there is a Subnet and DHCP Submenu. In there I see an option for Cascaded Routers and currently that is disabled. That is why I think it might be the Gateway, but wanted to ask you first.
5) Orginally the F/W was 2.00.07, but now it is 2.00.08.
I have a second GS108Ev3 that I purchased at the same time, and it gives me the same issues.
All I am wanting to do is use the two switches to hardwire two pc's and all my entertainment equipment in several locations of my home, since the Gateway only has four ports. I just like the security of hardwire/hardware instead of using wireless for internet access.

Here are my follow-up questions:
a. On question C from my previous response, the setup that I am referring to is Uverse NVG599--GS108Ev3--PC. Are you able to get replies when you ping the LAN IP address of the Uverse NVG599 (which is the default gateway) on this setup?
b. Did you perform a factory reset on the GS108Ev3 switch after upgrading the firmware to v2.00.08? If not yet, it is recommended to do a factory reset on the GS108Ev3 switch after a successful firmware upgrade then reconfigure the settings from scratch.
c. From question A, you mentioned that you were not able to ping a website. Regarding this, have you tried to set a static DNS on the PC like 8.8.8.8 or 4.2.2.2?

Hello, I solved the issue. I feel really stupid. When I checked the IP address settings on the PC's net adapter I noticed they were static. For the life of me I do not remember changing that from allowing a DHCP server to provide them. Must be my oldmanitis kicking in. Should have been the first thing i checked.
Sorry to have wasted your time. The switch is working fine now!
