GS752TPS Gain Access to Management VLAN using Loopback?
I've tried using netgear support for this issue but the guys in India aren't aware that their GS7xx models don't allow the management VLAN to be on the same VLAN that's also used in a VLAN route on the switch. I have VLAN 1 and VLAN 10 setup to route between each other and Netgear won't allow the management VLAN to be on either of these (VLAN 1 or 10) because they're in a VLAN route together. My solution was to setup a VLAN 100 on port 1 and put my management IP on that VLAN. The problem now is routing to VLAN 100 so I can manage the switch remotely. I can of course connect a cable straight to my laptop and manage it that way but I'd like to have other options. Has anyone ever turned on/off STP on the management port and done a loopback to another port (on a different VLAN) and then managed the switch through another VLAN? In my situation, I'd like to connect an ethernet cable from Port 1 (VLAN 100) and do a loopback to port 2 (vlan 1) and then access my management network (VLAN 100) through VLAN 1 remotely. I don't mind wasting the two ports to do this if it's possible. Has anyone thought of a better way to manage these switches when using the VLAN routing feature? I'm trying to avoid adding a route to my firewall and doing a direct connect that way even though that's my next step if I can't find a better way. Thanks in advance.
