LLDP sent from one pc is not seen on another

Hi,

the setup is as follows:

2 linux pcs connected through the m4300-16x switch.

i am sending an LLDP message from one and expect to see it on the other pc.

unfortunately , checking the Wireshark, i can only see the LLDP message sent by the switch itself and not the one i initiated on the linux pc.

connecting directly pc to pc, i can see the message

connected through the switch, only message is from the switch

connected directly pc to pc

Configurations that we tried:

  • LLDP transmit and receive on both ports
  • both ports are forced on multicast
  • filtering is disabled
  • disabled STP

What's in the name? That's why its name Link Layer Discovery Protocol - it's limited between the two end points of an Ethernet link, in this context the switch port and the connected computer. You will never be able to see these outside of the direct physical Ethernet link, making up the "connection".
