Low fan speed - high temperature
With factory default Firmware Version 6.1.0.12 fan speed was always high and noisy. I install latest 6.1.0.34 and fan speed immediately reduced. I think that fan speed is now smart and will raise tog...

I am having the same problem and cannot afford to take my practice offline for silly solutions to a design flaw.

We own 2 Netgear switches of model XS712T which we operate with firmware 6.1.0.34. These have the following temperatures and run at reduced speed (not fullspeed):
Switch 1: Sensor 1: 64 ° C, Sensor 2: 58 ° C
Switch 2: Sensor 1: 63 ° C, Sensor 2: 59 ° C
Are these temperatures too high to ensure stable operation? In which temperature range would the sensors have to move for a stable operation? Is a corrected firmware now available?

Hi DaniM
With latest firmware (6.1.0.34), we implemented thermal policy. Fans run in lower speed in normal case and high speed in worse case. This way, the unit produces less noise than before. At this key point, the sensor temperatures of 63 °C / 64 °C are safe for the XS712T 10G Smart Managed switch.
With this first generation of 10G Smart Managed switches, components produce some heat. Surface IC temperature / casing temperature (Tc) for both CPU and main MAC are rated to be 100% safe and reliable over 100 °C.
So temperatures you are reading are not a bug, this is intelligent fans and sensors normal trade-off between acoustic noise and internal components 'in spec' heat dissipation.
Newest 10G Smart Switch generation of switches (XS708T, XS716T, XS728T, XS748T) as well as latest 10G Managed Switch generation of switches (M4300 series) now provide even more quiet operation with even better heat dissipation.
Again, don't be afraid about the temperature. Our MTBF (mean time between failure) measurements communicated in our datasheets are amongst the best in the industry for 10G, thanks to high end componentry providing high availability and reliability.
