m4300-24x24f mac flapping due to server nic teaming active/backup mode
We currently have a Rack with 2 net gear switches (sw 1 & sw2) and 16 servers. Netgear Sw1 has a fiber link back to our Core sw 1 & netgear Sw2 has a fiber link back to our Core sw2.
Each server has (2) 10Gb dac cables & (2) 1Gb Cat 6 copper cable connected to them. Sw1 gets (1) 10Gb dac cable & (1) 1Gb Cat 6 copper cable while Sw2 gets (1) 10Gb dac cable & (1) 1Gb cat 6 copper cable.
We are trying to establish Nic teaming (active backup mode) on all 16 servers which supposed to be able to be use switch independent. But we notice that when pinging the 16 servers with no traffic on the network we get a timeout on the ping every so often on different servers within the rack. Which we think is due to MAC flopping between the netgear sw 1 & netgear sw 2
Each switch is programmed with three Vlans . Vlan 2 for all (16) ports for the 10Gb dac cable & Vlan 9 for our internal cluster network ( 16) 1Gb Cat 6 cable. Vlan 150 Port 24 ( Trunk) Fiber link cable back to core sw.
We are wondering if there is a way using Netgear sw command to get them to not mac flop. Should we be stacking the two switches and adding LAG ports? If so how should we do that?
