M4300-24X24F Simplex SFP not working

Hey Guys,

I´ve got an M4300-24x24F (Version: 12.0.9.3) switch with several SFP and Copper working fine.

Now i want to use a simplex SFP, but get an error:

"1/0/14 Port programming failed with error 0x1 for event INSERTION. Port may not be Up."

It doesn´t matter which port i use, I always get this message and the port won´t come up.

Under Port Transiver it shows:

1/0/14OEM00UP6290204703GLC-BX-U-C1300AUnknownNo1G

Any clue why it´s not working?

Thanks

Chris

  • I got new FS Simplex SFPs. I tried them in the Switch but they didn´t worked at first.

I checked the port configuration again to recognize that the port-speed is configured for 10G, when I change it to 1000 the link comes up.

When I change the SFP it falls back too 10G. I think the switch identify it as an 10G SFP and change the port automatically to 10G even if it is set to 1000 by hand.

    Hi Chris

Sorry about this, it looks like an interoperability issue with this third-party transceiver. Can you confirm it's a <<GLC-BX-U-C PROLABS GE/FC, SFP-BiDi, 1000BASE-BX, Single LC Connector, Tx1310nm/Rx1490nm, 10-20KM, with DOM function>>? Also can you confirm this very transceiver (and its SMF simplex fiber link) is up when plugged in another switch? I just want to isolate the issue first.

Next we'll need the output of these four commands in the console if the transceiver is inserted in port 1/0/14, if not please specify the right port as described starting page 202 of the CLI admin manual:

    M4300-24X24F #show fiber-ports optics 1/0/14

    M4300-24X24F #show fiber-ports optics-info 1/0/14

    M4300-24X24F #show fiber-ports optics-eeprom 1/0/14

    M4300-24X24F #show fiber-ports optics-diag 1/0/14

With this info we'll see, I hope, where the problem is and if we can fix it or not.

    Regards,

The SFP is working fine in an M4300-96X, with the Version 12.0.7.15.

      Here are the outputs:

        Hi

After reading your thread and since I'm using M4300-12X12F and M4300-52G-PoE+ with a couple of 10GBASE-BX modules from FS I obviously hoped I wouldn't be running into issues like yours. So I bit the bullet on a less important Switch and updated it from 12.0.7.15 to 12.0.9.3. I'm happy to report that those modules still work absolutely fine on this new release. What a relief :-)

I can only imagine that a change in between 12.0.7.15 and 12.0.9.3 has caused the issue. If you can, please try out 12.0.8.8. and 12.0.8.15 which have been release between those 2 other releases and let us know after which release it exactly starts causing you issues. Also I highly suggest opening a support case with Netgear since these forums are not monitored by the support engineers - however I've made good experience with them on such corner cases.

If you absolutely need that 12.0.9.3 for a specific bugfix right now, you might unfortunately have to replace these modules. Luckily 1GBASE-BX modules (even 10GBASE-BX) are not that expensive nowadays and there are several vendors to chose from.
