m4300-28G-PoE+ High CPU Utilization

Hello there.

Using a m4300-28G-PoE+ switch for Dante audio, as well as multicast Video over IP.

I'm seeing VERY high cpu usage, (averaging around 84%), and 50% or more of that is coming from "snooptask". Should I be worried? What happens if it spikes to 100%? What should I be looking for to troubleshoot this issue?

Thanks!
Josh D.

    Hi joshduguid999

    Welcome to Community!

Don't worry, "snooptask" is the component to handle IGMP Snooping traffic, as your switch is using for Dante audio, as well as multicast Video over IP. There is a lot of mulcast that switch need to handle, so it's a normal case.

So no worries about the high CPU usage otherwise? Is 89%+ normal?

        Yes, don't worry.

Just please keep monitor for average CPU Utilization, and check if there is any interrupt for multicast video traffic.

  • We experienced the same on our stack of M4300 switches. snoopTask was consuming all the CPU.

To date we found firmware 12.0.4.7 has been the most reliable but every 30 days the CPU usage creeps up and we have to reboot the stack in oder to keep IGMP/Multicast working properly.

We've just upgraded to 12.0.7.17 and are having issues again.

I have cases open with support to diagnose the issues.
