Security features in GS108Tv2 that are not in GS108PEv3
I purchased both a GS108Tv2 and GS108PEv3. Ther web interfaces are very different; I wish this had been more clearly differentiated in the pre-sales material. The GS108T's configuration is not as easy but it seems to have more features.
One security feature in the GS108Tv2 is a MAC Filter Traffic Control. The GS108PEv3 does not appear to have that.
Does the GS108PEv3 have any features available from the ProSAFE Plus Utility that are not in the web interface?
Is there any model with both Power over Ethernet and the advanced security features?
Hi twoods,
The GS108Tv2 is a ProSAFE Smart Switch while the GS108PEv3 is a ProSafe Web Managed Plus Switch.
A ProSafe Web Managed Plus switch gives user the flexibility to configure certain static layer 2 settings in order to improve network efficiency and performance. The configurable features are Port Mirroring, VLAN, QoS, Rate Limit, and Broadcast Storm Filtering. Older switch models of the ProSafe Web Managed Plus Switch series can be managed by installing the Prosafe Plus Configuration Utility on a PC. New models like GS108PEv3 can be managed either using the Prosafe Plus Configuration Utility or access its web-GUI using browsers like Firefox or Chrome.
The ProSAFE Smart switch has many of the benefits of a managed switch without the complexity or cost of a fully managed switch. With a smart switch, you can monitor ports, configure trunks, and set prioritization, all with an intuitive Web interface. A smart switch has more capability than an unmanaged switch, but not all that of a fully managed switch. ProSAFE Smart Switches can be managed either using the Smart Control Center Utility installed on a PC or access its web-GUI using browsers like Firefox or Chrome.
About the GS108PEv3, its configurable features can be set either via its web-GUI or via the Prosafe Plus Configuration Utility. Kindly access the user manual here as reference for the instructions.
About the switch model wherein it supports PoE and Advanced Security features, I suggest you the GS110TP Smart Switch. It has PoE capability on its 8 ports and it provides more robust security which includes 802.1x for authentication (MD5) and ACL filtering to permit or deny traffic based on MAC or IP addresses. Kindly check its data sheet here.
