Yes, this IS possible, however making it happen can be a challenge.
I often question WHY people choose to VLAN their networks - it's often done because of a misguided belief that it enhances security - which it can in a properly designed infrastructure, but in the average SMB environment, it just gets in the way of sharing the resources that are the reason the network exists.
