Weak wifi with Netgear GS108E

I get a very weak download speed on wifi after I plugged in my Netgear GS108E switch. 

I have a 100/10 (down/up) Mbit/s fiber connection. Have tried a lot of things but nothing seems to help the speed. 

What have I missed? 

 

Router gives me full speed with cable and wifi. 

Switch gives me full speed with cable but not wifi (only 15 % of my speed). 

Access Point gives me full wifi speed (100 Mbit/s) when connected to router.

 

Equipment:

 

My setup ist kind of easy, Router -> Switch -> UniFi Long Range Access Point (see image below).

    Hi delit,

     

    Can you please try updating your firmware to 2.00.05, the firmware you're on had some issues with flowcontrol being enabled by default and not adjustable. This resulted in slow speeds when doing certain tasks (especially speedtests).

    I must say first that you have a very good diagram there, makes it easy to understand your setup. Since you have tried isolating the issue, I would like to know when you have connected the APs to the router did you use the TP sockets or just directly into the router using a cat6? If you do, I also need to get the firmware version that you are using on the switch and/or other configuration that you have. If you have firmware version 1.00.11 or lower, please see to update the switch by downloading the latest firmware version here.

     

    I hope updating the firmware would make a difference or fixes the issue. If you have more questions, feel free to ask.

      • The APs was connected directly into the router using cat6. (Router > Cat6 > AP).
      • Have also tried to [Router > Cat6 > Switch > Cat6 > AP] (no sockelt) with the same result
      • The firmware is 2.00.03 (see image below).
      • Utility version:  2.3.5

       

      Any other ideas?

        The problem is likely with flow control due to different speed between uplink to Router (1G) and uplink to AP (100M).  I bet when you test wired to switch and got good result you were linked up at 1G but your AP are linked up at 100M.   So the switching has to deal with 2 100M and 1G uplink to router.   you are dealing with flow control issue.

         

        Try this.

        Force the port going to uplink to 100M on the switch and see if suddenly there is improvement for wireless performance

        OR
        See if the Flow Control setting on the ports or the switch globally that can be enabled.  Enable it

         

        Otherwise, open a support case and request to log an issue with engineering to look into flow control problem between 100M and 1G uplink.  May take some time to reproduce and fix but it would be possible.
