Connecting non-poe device to Poe connector

Are ALL Netgear poe switches compatible with non poe devices?
In other words: if I have a Netgear switch poe, could I connect any non-poe device safely?
Thank you
  • Yes, PoE delivery is triggered by a negotiation between the Power Sourcing Equipment (PSE) and the PD (powered device). The latest standards use LLDP in addition. If nothing is negotiated, there is no power supplied.

FWIW: Please be aware that this applies to IEEE standards compliant PoE schemes. With so called "passive PoE" or the like (proprietary schemes), things can be different.
