Firmware version 5.0.0.8 issues

Hi.

I have a Netgear FS728TP switch that had firmware v 3.0.0.x. So i decided to upgrade to version 5.0.0.8 using the Smartwizard Discovery tool.

After a successful upgrade, the issue i have now is that I can't reach/discover the switch via web browser or smartwizard (my PC's ip is in the same range as the switch). The PoE ports LED where my PC and AP are connected to are orange.

I have tried to reset the switch but it doesn't change anything.

please help!

Thanks

  • Hi DaneA,

thanks for the reply. Here are some of the answers to your question.

    a. Version 3.0.0.22

    b. I didn't upgrade the boot code to 1.0.0.5

    c. I pressed the factory default, and still didn't work

I followed the steps below a couple of times and still doesn't work. The PoE Max light is still orange.

    Thanks.

    Hi mmagongoa,

    Welcome to the community! :)

It seems the switch model you have is an FS728TPv1.  Let me inform you that as per the release notes of firmware v5.0.0.8, it says these warnings:

    • Please make sure the firmware version of your FS728TP smart switch is running with version 3.0.0.22 before upgrading it to version 5.0.0.7. Otherwise, the device will become inoperable.
    • If your device is running with V1.x.x.x firmware, please refer to the upgrade instruction for version 3.0.0.22.
    • Please go to Maintenance->Download to upgrade the boot code to version 1.0.0.5 first before upgrading the firmware to version 5.0.0.7.

Since you have downloaded firmware v5.0.0.8, click on the release notes to double-check it.  Here are my questions below:

    a. What is exactly firmware v3.0.0.x?  Is it v3.0.0.22 or v3.0.0.12?

    b. Have you upgraded the boot code to version 1.0.0.5 first before upgrading the firmware?

    c. There is a reset button and a factory defaults button on the FS728TPv1.  Which one did you press?

    Kindly try the steps below:

    1. Disconnect the FS728TPv1 switch from your existing network and make sure its turned on.  Get a straightened paper clip.

    2. Insert the paper clip to the factory defaults hole then press and hold the factory reset button inside it for 30 seconds.  Make sure that you press the factory defaults button not the reset button.

    3. After 30 seconds, turn off the FS728TPv1 switch while you still continue to press and hold the factory reset button.  Wait for 5 seconds.

    4. After 5 seconds, turn on the FS728TPv1 switch while you still continue to press and hold the factory reset button.  Wait for another 5 seconds.

    5. After 5 seconds, release the paper clip from the factory reset button.  Wait for the FS728TPv1 switch to boot up properly.

    Let us know the results.

    Regards,

        mmagongoa,

Since the steps didn't help, I suggest you to open an online case with NETGEAR Support at anytime.  Kindly state your concern about the FS728TPv1 switch you have.  Attach a .pdf or .doc copy of the Proof of Purchase or Sales Invoice of the FS728TPv1 switch to the online case for warranty verification.  If the hardware warranty is valid, an online replacement will follow.

        Regards,
