I have a GS108Tv2 and i'd like to upgrade the firmware. I only have linux machines, so the Smart Control Center does not work. I thought i could upgrade the firmware instead with http, so i browsed t...

Early Smart Managed Pro switches from launched more than a decade ago were initially fully depending on the utility (Smart Control Center), even older ones since the early 2000ands used an even older utility (Smartwizard Utility). Some switch models got a limited Web UI over time as part of the ongoing development, some later ones got even a full Web administration complementing the utility.
The only option is to run a WIndows VM or loan a Windows PC to run the utility required.

i can confirm that worked. so there is no way to upgrade the firmware without a windows system? i am asking because i am going to write my master thesis about automatic infrastructure recovery and if thats the case with the requirement of a running windows, this switch is unfortunately not useful. i am used to have some kind of management interface that is os independent (any API, web management or cli)

Welcome to the reality!
Here you find many more devices which will cause you green field ideas big problems and headaches - devices like commercial/business grade switches and routers, devices with fixed default IP (you will have probably a hand full or hundreds on the same IPs) on the in-band management (any don't have this enabled from the factory reset), devices with out-of-band network management, devices with serial console ports, devices require tftp or even proprietary schemes to load and boot firmware and load configs, ... legacy devices requiring proprietary processes, tools, and utilities, ...
What does the theoretical availbility of a CLI or a Web-access help if you can't reach these for various reasons?

thats not a question i'd like to answer, its a feasability study and i can define the setup and requirements, so it would be no problem if the switch has to be installed for the first time manually. if its not available in a recovery, then i guess a report will be written that this device is somehow broken and must be investigated by a person. as mentioned, its just a study, not an all case covering project ;)

edit: just wondering how this management center works because it also just uses tcp/ip to transport the firmware blob to the switch, so guess this could be reverse engineered. but thats also not related to my study. guess i'll just take another switch, maybe even an unmanaged one. unfortunately there is no edit button for my message, otherwise i would have just edited it.
