CLI support for GS108Tv2?!

Dear Community,

I'm new on this forum but have been using Netgear stuff in a SoHo setting for some 15 years now. First a ReadyNAS RND4000NV, then a WNDR3800 (wifi) router, and then a bunch of GS108T managed switches. Wonderful stuff. Recently bought one more GS108T but this turns out to be a different beast. I found that my old switches are GS108Tv2 and my latest is GS108Tv3. And the latter supports CLI. Being a Cisco pro (bit rusty now), I instantaneously activated Telnet access (to the CLI) to experiment with it. Nice! But now I'm wondering about my bunch of GS108Tv2's: do these also have CLI support (either official or non official)?!

Thanx in advance,

Steyn van Essen

Enter the default username: admin (without being promoted) in the telnet session on 60000, then you will get the password prompt, use the admin password from the Web UI....

    (Broadcom FASTPATH Switching)

Applying Interface configuration, please wait …

    Like that:

Applying Interface configuration, please wait …admin

    Typing “?” FMI:

    (Broadcom FASTPATH Switching) >?

help - Display help for various special keys.

logout - Exit this session. Any unsaved changes are lost.

passwd - Change an existing user’s password.

ping - Send ICMP echo packets to a specified IP address.

Even a basic help is available:

    Hello Steyn-van-Essen

Try telnet on port 60000 ...

Remember neither that nor the official CLI is a key component similar to Cisco IOS.

    Regards,

    -Kurt.

  • Dear Schumaku,

Thnx. I get something interesting on 60000 (with plain Telnet, not SSH):

    (Broadcom FASTPATH Switching)

Applying Interface configuration, please wait ...

But I get no further than that.

  • Dear Schumaku,

I checked the Security tab in the webgui. On GS108Tv3 it has these sections:

    • HTTP
    • HTTPS
    • SSH
    • Access Control

On GS108Tv2 section 'SSH' is not present. Would you know of any tweak/cheat/way to get access anyway?!

  • Dear Kurt,

It's awesome: with your help I could enter w/o a problem. The v2 CLI environment looks OK (and maybe I try something with it later), but the syntax is quite different from that of v3. So I have to be careful. F.e. no mention of 'startup-config' and 'backup-config' (only 'running-config' is present). And 'write' instead of 'save'. And 'show tech-support' shows BCM53312 CPU and ecos-2.0 as operating system, where v3 doesn't show any OS name, only firmware version. But this has happened in the past with Cisco products as well, new lines of hardware came with new OS developers and adapted syntax. Probably because of some company take over.

Nevertheless: Kurt, you saved my day. Thank you very much (or could I say Vielen Dank?! ;-) from The Netherlands.

Altijd een genoegen, groeten uit Zwitserland aan Nederland. Yes, E D F I spoken here, ziemlich flexibel - worked a long time with an old Dutch friend here.

      Regards,

      -Kurt.

  • Yes I know some of that E D F I stuff. Learned most of it in school since we're a very small country (except for the E part which we refer to as 'reto-romaans'). Grazie mille!
