Gs305 cascading
Hello What is the best configuration I have two gs305 connect via port 5 I am using advanced vlan port tagging Port 1-3 vlan port 4 vlan 5 Port 5 vlan 1 and 5 Or is 802.1q the better...
I have two gs305 connect via port 5
Some kind of GS105E, GS105EP, GS105EPP, GS105Ev2, or similar - as a GS105 is an unmanaged switch, and you won't have these options - one might guess.
Or is 802.1q the better configuration?
Definitivley yes!
Talking of the advanced 802.1q mode here:
That way you can operate the trunk (where you intend to transport more than a single VLAN on might guess) the way you prefer, e.g. the VLAN 1 as [U]ntagged (don't forget to set the PVID for the trunk ports to 1), all other VLANs als [T]agged.
Of course, you might consider going to the basic 801.1q mode. Disadvantage for the trunk port: You can't simply connect any computer for testing - on that trunk mode, all VLANs on the trunk ports will be tagged.
