GS716tpp unable to connect to internet or allow any clients to access internet

Establishing a connection from any port on the GS716TPP to one of the router LAN ports does show a green light flashing  "Blinking green. The port is transmitting or receiving packets at 1000 Mbps. " ... so we know there is an active 1000Mb/s Ethenet link, and there might be some traffic.

Whatever you understand what a self assigned IP address is.

• Fixed address manually assigned?
• DHCP (probably not, lack of a router connection)
• ZeroConf address where decent Mac or Windows or Linux system are falling back to (169.254.x.x/16)? this is technically a self-assigned IP. Doubt the switch does support and use ZeroConf IP addresses.

What IP addresses are in use at this point?

Reads like the router does assign a management IP config as it's supposed to do. This would be visible in the router logs, attached devices, ... one might guess.

On the router DHCP, the GS716TPP MAC was registered with an IP addess matching your LAN IP subnetwork, to be on the safe side, you selected an IP address from the router LAN DHCP pool.

Lack of any insight, let me suggest this:

• Head to https://www.netgear.com/support/
• Search for "discovery", download and install the netgear Switch Discovery Tool for your OS, from https://www.netgear.com/support/product/netgear-switch-discovery-tool.aspx#download  
• Search for "GS716TPP", follow the link, hed to [Downloads], and download the current firmwre, as of writing https://www.netgear.com/support/product/gs716tpp.aspx#Firmware%20Version%201.0.4.2 
• Update the switch with the firmware image expanded from the downloaded ZIP archive
• Check the curent (new) firmware image is selected for the next boot. Reboot the switch
• From the locally connected mac (just mac<->switch) login, and reset the switch to the factory default
• Establish the connection to the router again.
• Connect the Mac to the router WLAN or LAN, and run the discovery utility. double check the information shown makes sense, and the address is in the same subnet like the router, the Mac, ... Now access the switch using the IP adress shown on the Web browser

What was the outcome? There is no "magic" if the problem is just reported. Hard to "know" about the status of the switch there.

Following a factory reset, these Netgear Smart Managed Switches are plain flat L2 switches, with the link established to the router, with the Mac connected to another switch port, one would assume the Mac does receive an IP config by DHCP (don't forget to switch it to DHCP mode again, away from a fixed IP, otherwise nothing will happen), and you should be able to discover the switch again, reach the Internet, ....

Was this switch ever added to Insight before, and some unknown configs were applied probably? More digging in the dark. If yes, head to the Insight portal and remove the device from the Insight management.
