HI Kurt,
Thanks for your response. The swtich is running the latest firmware. My router range of assignable IP addresses is 192.168.0.100 - 192.168.0.199, subnet 255.255.255.0. The Netgear switch is unable to get an assigned IP adddress from the router. I swtiched the setting to manual IP Address on the switch and I assigned the ip address 192.168.0.101 (which is available) and 255.255.255.0 as subnet, and 192.168.0.1 as gateway. I have assigned a state IP address to my ethernet port on my macbook pro 192.168.0.195 subnet 255.255.255.0 router / gateway 192.168.0.1.
The switch is not connected to insight. Is there a setting on the switch that could be blocking it from obtaining an IP address from the router dhcp? It's set to defaults. It also blocks any clients connected to the switch from accessing the router.

When connecting the Mac to the same port you intend to use fo the uplink from the switch, will it get an IP addess assigned?
Beyond me what is going on there. As I said, in the factory reset state, it's a plain standard flat L2 network switch, and the management is on the default VLAN 1 (and all ports are untagged VLAN 1, and on PVID 1).
Many things can be configured different, like a management VLAN ID assigned, some VLAN config, ... This is why I kindly asked for doing a facory reset, then use the utility mentioned for the switch discovery, ... This could give dome insight. Oherwise we will run in circles forever.

Thanks. I did the reset and it's a vanilla setup. The discovery tool finds it and it's the default IP address.
