GS724TPv2 and XFinity Modem
Good evening.
Newbie here.
My old switch died and I purchased a GS724TPv2 for a replacement. I figured that I'd upgrade to something nicer but now I've gotten myself into a problem.
Previously, I used the Xfinity modem to provide Internet, our wireless network and DHCP for the devices plugged into the switch. Devices on both the wireless and wired network could see each other.
I put the new switch in place and realized that it, too, had a DHCP server. I know you don't want to have two DHCP servers runing like this, as now the wired and wireless devices can't see each other.
What I don't know is how to fix this. Do I just disable the DHCP server on the modem?
Super lost. Thanks

If your (unspecified) "My old switch" was stupid/unmanaged, and you
were happy with it, then a similarly simple switch might have been a
better choice as its replacement than one with a 400-page User Manual.> [...] Do I just disable the DHCP server on the modem?
If your (unspecified) "the Xfinity modem" has a DHCP server, then I'd
guess that it's a modem+router, not a simple "modem".If you're replacing a switch with no DHCP capability, then why not
disable the DHCP capability in the new switch? How many things would
you like to change at the same time?Visit http://netgear.com/support , put in your model number, and look
for Documentation. Get the User Manual (at least). Read? Look for
"DHCP"?- schumakuGuru - Experienced User
At the risk of disappointing your troubleshooting: The GS724TPv2 does not have a DHCP server. It offers some DHCP Snooping, however this isn't enabled by default.
Was your unspecified old "switch" probably a router?
So I start to wonder if what you suspect coming from a magic DHCP server might be some 169.254.x.x ZeroConfig addresses?
Come-on antinode there are just 118 occurences of DHCP on the 400 pages 8-)
