Cable Modem for Xfinity (August 2025)
Xfinity identifies the following older Netgear modems as compatible for my location:
- Netgear CM1100
- Netgear CM2000.
(I do not require Voice or WiFi in the modem.)
Seeking recommendations for whether I should purchase the newest available Netgear modem or should I seek one of these older models?
If a newer model, are there any to be avoided?
You could also look at the CODA56. Its even cheaper.
In terms of modems, its more about looking at the reviews for reliability. Because the speed/performance is part of their certification and what the ISP sets them for. The Netgear CM3000, Arris S34, and CODA56 are all rated to the same speed tiers/specs per xfinity. So I'd look at a few reviews and then see which you prefer based on reviews and prices. Thats about it as they should all perform the same while working.
Here's xfnity's speed tier list for their next gen speeds.

All CM series modems are supported and work well. Up to you on what you get. If you need higher mid split speeds, 2.5Gb then you'll need to CM2500 or CM3000. The lower models are not supported for higher Speeds. Depends on what speed you want. Ask the ISP on what they officially support.

What router do you have?
What speeds do you pay for?Are you planning on upgrading to a faster router/ISP speed plan?
Those are the key questions. If you're planning on staying on a 500mbps plan, they'll do fine. But 1 gig +, its better to go a different version

I currently have a Linksys MBE7000 network via Spectrum's 600 Mbps plan. I plan to purchase Xfinity's 1 Gbps plan at a new address. After reading here, I'm leaning strongly toward the CM3000.

The MBE7000 does have a multigig wan port so I"d shoot for the CM3000 or arris S34. Either would be a good choice and hit multigig speeds on xfinity. They'd both also be capable of the "next gen" upload speeds

Thank you! Other than price, what significant differences do you perceive between the Arris S34 (~$219) and the Netgear CM3000 (~$299)?
