The simple IP stack with a piggy back microcontroller on these in the core unmanaged switches have some limitations when comparing to devices with full IP stacks.
Known are path MTU limits preventing the deployment and operation behind VPNs or proxies, MTU negotiation or smaller than the default MTU are not supported. It's a design and implementation limitation on the very simple IP stack in place on some these smaller Plus or Easy Smart Switches.
Nothing the network admin or Netgear engineering can do here.
Consider to deploy a switch wit a more capable IP stack instead.
