Setup Help pls - GS728TP with Billion Router 7800VDOX

I need some help setting up my Netgear GS728TP managed switch with a Billion Modem/Router BiPac 7800VDOX

I have tried to set up straight out of the box with factory defaults but everything seems to be running slow and haphazard, I have the following devices in my lan:

Synology Nas drive

IP security cameras x 6 running POE

2 Mac desktops - cat5e

ipad and Laptop - WiFi

The devices all have their own reseved IP address and the Modem/ Router is set to DHCP, I'm not sure but the switch may be trying to do the same DHCP.

If someone could help with how I should be setting this up (incl settings), I would greatly appreciate the help.

Many thanks

Chela

Kindly observe if the Link/Act port LEDs if its blinking green or blinking yellow.  Please refer to the Port LED Designation on page 14 of the Hardware Installation Guide for the GS728TP here.

You may isolate the problem by running a speed test on a PC.  First, while the GS728TP is connected to the Billion Router 7800VDOX, run a speed test on a PC that is hardwired to the GS728TP.  Second, run a speed test on a PC that is directly connected to the Billion Router 7800VDOX.  Compare the results.

    Hi Chela,

    A few questions:

    a. Are you just using the GS728TP as an unmanaged switch?

    b. What is the current firmware version of the GS728TP?

    c. What is the behavior of the port LED lights on the ethernet ports that were used by your devices (IP security cameras, MAC desktops, etc.) on the GS728TP?

    d. Have you set an IP address on the GS728TP switch that is within the IP range of your existing network?

    e. Did you run some tests that shows that the connection through the GS728TP switch is slow?

I look forward to your response.  Welcome to the community! :smileyhappy:

      Hi DaneA,

      a. Yes, I would like to use it as an unmanaged switch at this point in time, currently the only thing that i need it to do is act as a switch and also power my POE ip Cameras.

      b. Boot version - 2.0.0.6 Software version - 6.0.1.16.

      c. All the LEDs kind of seem to blink at the same time roughly.

      d. Yes the IP address of the Switch is within the range of the router.

      e. I haven't run any specific speed tests, I noticed a noticable drop in browser and download speeds after the GS728TP was added.

      Thanks for you welcome :-)
