I've seen issues when using this at home (or work) environments when the default IP address range is 192.168.1.*** or 10.0.0.***. there's ways around that but an easy one for many users is just to change your routers range to the 192.168.0.*** range. Then when the router reboots with the switch connected, you can connect to its default address.
for the fancier methods, schumaku is the expert. Mines is just the cheater/easy trick that I've used before.

Thanks for your reply , I connected the GS308e direct into my sky router on 192.168.0 .xxx and manage to connect. Reading other issues on GS308E on the forum and it seems that the unit is a nightmare wish i had n't bought 3 months ago . I cannot get any sense or help from Netgear support , yet the product hardware has warranty till 2025.+ Software obviously does count.
Which Switches are good to use for vlans Netgear.

Great! What's the point for being unhappy with Netgear? On the default .239 or on a Sky router assigned DHCP address? DHCP is enabled by default, so after a cold boot, the router will assign an address. And this works independent of the fact that your router is defaulting luckily to the same 192.168.0.x/24 subnet.

Reading similar questions like yours tell me people fail to read the printed leaflet certainly supplied with your switch For further reference here is a link to it:.NETGEAR 5-Port and 8-Port Gigabit Ethernet Smart Managed Plus SOHO Switch Model GS305E and GS308E Installation Guide

What exactly do you intend to do with VLANs?
Your GS308E can be configured in various modes stating from simple, Port-based VLANs up to the fully fledged 802.1Q Advanced VLAN configuration.
Very impressive for the price we pay on the level of a quality, non-managed switch in my opinion. I paid about 25 Euros for mine, second hand, in an unopened and sealed package (unregistered) btw. Lot of bang for the buck.
Consult with the Chapter "3. Use VLANS for Traffic Segmentation", starting on page 28 ff. on the Gigabit Ethernet Plus Switches User Manual and don't hesitate to ask. Keep in mind: We're all happy-to-help unpaid community members, and can't take away the burdens of a learning curve in building network with VLANs.
