FAN loud XS508M

Dear all,

I hope I get some tips for my problem what I have and maybe many others.

I bought a XS508M unmanaged switch, a nice one but I am in shock about the very very noisy fan inside. I like to use it in a study room where I work and my wife too. This is unacceptable noise in the room.  Now I can do two things returning the switch or I replace the fan with some issues with my warranty . I searched the internet and see more people have fan issues with switches. Who can help me out what fan I can use to replace without troubles and like a plug and play solution if possible. I am technical so I can do it .

I see Sanyo Denki and other brands but I like an easy swap and a quiet good cooling fan.

Thank you for all the help.

Noise is a extremely subjective thing - have a XS505M here on the table, almost not recognizable. In a very silent room, 22.5 dba (~0.3 sone) is certainly audible, but far away from noisy.

Not convinced the alternate fans offered e.g. on eBay - these are, like the OEM fans, 12 V DC, nominal max RPM of 9000 min^-1 but are operated at much lower RPM under normal conditions in the XS508M/XS505M. If you are open the experiment (with an uncertain outcome) order what these sellers are offering.

Keep in mind all typical rack mountable (I'm talking about those not sold as very silent like the XS505M/508M) are intended to be operated in hot rack mount environments. These switch fans operate on speeds of up to 15'000 min ^-1 ... definitively comparably noisy because these are producing massive amount of heat which has to be feed out....

Hey hi thank you for responding,

I am a bit surprised that your 505 is so quiet. I shall try to measure the 508 too.

Yes I read some advertisements on Ebay and internet and maybe I am going todo that.

If you put the 508 in a rack its ok but in a silent study / work room

The fan noise is such high and too loud.

The fan is’t automatic , are they? If so when he is at quiet mode? With less then 4 connections?

        Dear all,

Add question about when is the ventilator light in the XS 508M going to orange, at what conditions?

I work with a Noctua fan is working pretty good but the light is orange.

I wander is that the RPM minimum value? or else? I dont think there is a blow CFM senor

        Thx.
