gateway addres 169.254.29.193 instead 192.1681.1.
I attached my new GS108 switch but it connects to 169.254.29.193 on my ASUS gateway, instead of the correct address 192.168.1.1.
How di i change this into the right address?
Peter
- I solved it by setting the gateway at 192.168.1.1 in the network adapter ip-settings, under Advanced.
Success.

The GS108 is a unmanaged switch. Even the more expensive configurable or smart manageable don't make use of Zeroconf addresses like 168.254.x.x/16 - and it's IP is only for local management purposes, and not for routing.
If a system connected through such a switch to the router - assuming the port on the router/gateway where it's connected is working - and there is no DHCP server available, no MAC address reserved or allowed to access the router, (and obvious without a static/fixed IP configured).. many modern OS fall back to Zeroconf addresses. This is not something assigned by either the switch or a router.
Start with checking the link speed negotiated - check if the LEDs on the switch, computer port, and router show an active and assumable working link.
