GS108 multiple failures

I purchased a GS108v4 switch and used it hardwired to a google home WiFi router which is then connected to my Spectrum modem.  Plugged into this switch are a Denon AV Receiver, Latest version Apple TV, Xbox S, Sony 4K player, URC universal remote, and then one connection to another Netgear GS308 switch that feeds another part of the house.  All hardware is plugged into a surge protector powerstrip as well.

After roughly a month this switch stopped working.  LIghts were on normally showing network activity but none of the attached devices had connectivity.  To test the wiring and all other factors I swapped out with an old 10/100 switch that I had and everything worked perfectly again.  I returned the GS108 to BestBuy letting them know it was defective and ordered a new one as I thought it an isolated issue on January 12.  The new GS108v4 came and I swapped out the old switch.  It worked perfectly until February 9 where it had the same failure.  I once again swapped it out with an old switch and all worked again.

I have read on this forum that the GS108 seems to have a lot of failures and issues.  I have two other 308 series Netgear unmanaged switchs that have worked for years without incident.  I have tested cables and restarted the switch after leaving it off for an hour but it appears to no longer work.  Are there quality control problems with this switch or is there something else I should try before giving up and going with another brand?  I am happy to troubleshoot if I missed something.

    gundlachd,

    Welcome to our community! :)

We do apologize for the experience that you had with the GS108. You did a good thing on isolating the switch which is one of the things that we would do in order to test a plug and play switch. But, you could also try swapping those cables just to check if that would work on your GS108 even if it works with the other switch. You could also try to connect the devices one by one in order for us to see which one of the devices is causing the switch to fail.

I have tested the cables and they appear to be fine.

So my question is even if a device (lets say the Apple TV4K for example) was causing something to have the switch stop working would not a power down and power up of the unmanaged switch resolve the issue?

Also, I purchased a Netgear GS608NA switch from BestBuy and hooked it up.  It has been running for 5 days without incident.  This would lead me to believe the GS108 had a hardware failure.  Would you concur or do you think its something else?

      Thank you for your time!

      Dave

        gundlachd,

Thanks for trying to swap those cables. Rebooting the switch may resolve the issue but not for long as it will happen again and again.

If the new switch works fine, then it could probably a hardware fault on the previous switch.

        Regards,
