More than strange. Do he Archer P9 and the RaspberryPi3 indicate GbE link speeds?

Correct as evidenced by the test mentioned in the OP, where I plugged the Pi direct into the Tp-link.
In the meantime I found another old netgear switch (GS605), I will insert that in place of the Tp-Link and see what results I get.
