So I have narrowed bown part of the problem to some sort of incompatibilty between the Tp-Link router and the GS305. After I replaced the TP-link with with an old GS605 that I found in a box, that appeared to resolve the speed downlocking.
But that has now highlighted another issue where once I kick off a transfer, the speed is solid at 118mb/s for above 5-6 second it then drops to the floor, sometimes to 0 and then bounced upand downbtween 0-80mb/s.
So the first thing I am going to do is get a long ether net cable so I can isolate parts of the LAN one at a time to try and isolate whats causing the above speed ping-pong.
