GS348 — random dropouts
We are using 4 new GS348 switches, setup like this.
Router > switch 1
---------------------------
| | |
switch 2 Switch 3 Switch 4
So, switch 1 is the master swtich and we use 3 ports on Switch 1, to connect swtich 2, 3 and 4.
The network works fine and fast most of the time.
However, randomly.... ports on Switch 3 and Switch 4, all disconnect together
I did an overtime ping for all IPs, overnight, 30 seconds apart.... all devices lost connection on Switch 3 at 1.53 in the morning.
to fix the above, I pulled out the cable from Switch 3 (that leads to Switch 1) and re-connected... all devices then started working.
I repeated the overnight ping, the next night... and everything worked fine.
The same issue also happened on Switch 4.... with the same fix being to pull out the network cable and re-connect.
Any hints on what might be causing this random dropout would be appreciated.
Thank You.

have you tried swapping switch 1 and 2? (since 2 didn't have any issues)
If its a switch/port issue, swapping them would let you check that. If it stays working fine when you swap the 2, something could be bad with the primary switch.
If it keeps dropping, then I'd be checking the cables as its rare for 2 switches to go bad at the same time.

Thnaks for the reply. I'll do a few more days of pings. If it's still limited to switch 3/4, I'll change the ports on Switch 1 and re-test.
So, yes, could be a switch 1 port issue.
