why does FS105 have / need an IP address
newbie query
have a FS105 and it has an IP address
why does this switch need an IP address?

thanks
am on Mac OS El Capitan
tried ipconfig but I guess the Mac version does not include /all
router is leased from Whidbey Tel and they do permit end users to log in to the router
but
riddle is solved
I crawled up into the ceiling, unstrapped the ADT Pulse Gateway, turned it over, and what did I find
in teeny tiny letters "by Netgear of California" with a MAC address that matches
so
when Fing, etc report IP and MAC by Netgear, they are correct
they are referring to the ADT Pulse device, NOT the Netgear switch
so riddle is solved, thank you all

Hi engravosaurus,
On a Windows PC, the command "ipconfig /all" (without the quotation marks) executed via the command prompt will display full configuration information.
On the web-GUI of the NETGEAR ProSAFE VPN Firewall routers, there is "LAN Groups" wherein it shows all the IP addresses and the corresponding MAC Addresses that are connected within the local network. Have you check the web-GUI of your existing router if there is "LAN Groups" or "Attached Devices"?
