Router Not Performing as advertised
I have a couple FVS114s and FVS214G. I have had complaints that they do not perform as advetised. The Wan connection is supposed to be 100Mbps, none of the WAN ports will communicate over 15Mbps. Tested the line directly connect with computer will get 60Mbps up and down and at second location I get 100Mbps up and down. These rounters and other Netgear routers have fallen short of the speed they advertised. Are all NetGear routers and switches the same the same?

Hi Olddog-58,
Welcome to the community! :)
Both the FVS114 and FVS124G has a LAN-to-WAN throughput of 11.5Mbps only. Since you are subscribed with 100Mbps of WAN connection, I recommend you to use a VPN firewall router that has a LAN-to-WAN throughput that is greater than 100Mbps in order to solve the problem.
Since both FVS114 and FVS124G are already EOL (End-of-Life), I suggest you to replace it with new NETGEAR VPN Firewall routers (either FVS318Gv2, FVS318N, FVS336Gv3 or SRX5308) that is available in the market today wherein their LAN-to-WAN throughput is greater than 100Mbps. Kindly access the data sheet below and know their comparison:

The Data sheet on the old routers say they run at 100Mbps Full Duplex but they don't. How can we be sure this is not the issue with new routers. NetGear should offer a free return on the equipment ( Netgear will pay to have a shipping service pick up the router and refund all cost associated with the router). E-O-L has no bearing on this issue. It has been a problem with the routers from purchase but was all ways blamed on some thing else. I replaced the router for the customer with an other router. We, your resellers have to stand behind your products but you don't

Hi Olddog-58,
The 10/100BASE-T is the capability of the ethernet port (WAN port) itself and this is different to LAN-to-WAN throughput. Since both the FVS114 and FVS124G has a LAN-to-WAN throughput of 11.5Mbps, it cannot go any faster than 11.5Mbps data transfer to and from the internet.

I have worked with both the fvs114 and fvs124g and can say that they're both quite fast for their era. But you have to realize that their era is well over 10 years ago now, when Internet speeds were measured in kbps.
We pushed these two models as far as we could. The FVS114 was our primary router until the wan port finally gave out. Two other lan ports went out prior to this. The maximum WAN to LAN we ever saw was over 40Mbps--well over all the specs published for the unit. We also regularly saw 5Mbps on the VPN throughput on a site-to-site to the FVS124G, again well over spec. Best thing about this router? The under 1 second reboot time.
The 124G's specs on the other hand, were dead on. I never saw more than the same 11.5Mbps, but it was a very reliable 11.5Mbps. We still have this unit somewhere, and I just realized I can repurpose it for its gigabit switch.
Did you know these units came with a lifetime warranty? I haven't yet found the invoices for ours, but the second I do, I'm sending them in for warranty replacement. You can do the same and will get newer models capable of better speeds. Beware however that these newer models have their own quirks that you'll need to work around. Good luck.
