The correct procedure for a B2B transaction from any EU country (including Ireland) to any country outside the EU (including UK) is something called the Reverse Charge Procedure. That means that no VAT is charged on the invoice and the invoice must state that the Reverse Charge Procedure applies to the invoice. I am certain that this is correct because it is the way that Google (based in Ireland) charge for Google Workspace, and I know a lot about VAT.
If the customer is not a business then that is different. Having a UK VAT number is proof that you are a business which applies to us.
As far as I can make out Netgear have 2 classes of account, Personal and Business so that they can make the charge correctly but we are classed as Personal for some bizarre reason. There is nothing on the Netgear website which provides a contact point for this type of problem. Support will not handle it (I tried) and Sales have no idea about it and don't even bother to reply to requests for help.
Basically Netgear are paying VAT to the Irish Government which they do not need to do, what an incompetent shambles.
