Home use for WAX 620

I did not realize when I purchased this access point it was for business. I have it hard wired from my ATT Remote Gateway in the basement. It works fine but I understand I will be charged a yearly fee. A couple of things about this device.

1) It drops out a few times per week. Maybe the ATT RG is going off line as well but I haven't seen a log of that.

2) My Mac Book Pro can download the app however I read it is only for iPhones and iPads. When I attempt to start the app on a MacBook I receive a notification that my device is jailbroken or rooted. It is a 2021 Mac Book Pro. I have not touched it. I would not know how. I am assuming there is no application for the Mac Book Pro.

3) I have many devices that work well with the WAX 620. This week, two of my Ring Stick up Cameras lost connection. They were working fine. Now I cannot reconnect them. I have a third Ring stick up that is working just fine. I have a couple of other access points that are hardwired to the ATT RG and the camera can connect to those points. I am not sure what happened.

4) I think once I start having to pay a yearly fee I will have just purchased an overkill and not get anything for my money. Maybe I should have purchased the Orbi?

The bigger question is, should I return the WAX620 since it is for business use and not home use?

Thank you.

All the Netgear WAX6xx (as well as the earlier WAC5xx 802.11ac models) are industry standard wireless access points with feature sets making it possible to deploy these at home as well as on single or multi network deployments in SOHO or SMB environments. This includes the ability to deploy these with small and medium sized businesses, but does certainly not exclude these from home or large scale deployments with thousands of wireless access points.

There is nothing that stops us from managing each WAX6xx using it's local web interface, without using Netgear Insight. Netgear Insight and Insight Pro are the only features coming with an affordable annual price tag to extend the e.g. one year free offerings.

To operate these access points, the insight App not the center of the universe. The reason the Insight (and other Netgear Apps exist) comes from the small size displays of mobile phones. This is what these are made for, and this is why the community members here talk of iPhones and sometimes iPads.

We understand Apple tried to extend the App usability by adding some iOS runtime environments to macOS 11.0 or later and a Mac with Apple M1 chip or later. Not a secret, this extension was done kind of silent, without further interop tests by Apple. Apple believed all app developers go and update all apps to support the functionality also on the M1 Mac. Could happen that certain code in the Apps (in place to prohibit the app to be operated on rooted or otherwise abused mobiles) can show such messages. Don't know anything beyond this...

Everything not a problem considering Netgear Insight can be perfectly managed using the Web portal on https://insight.netgear.com/

Orbi or wireless APs? Orbi is a throw-in system designed mainly for a wireless Mesh backhaul. Very different from what you already operate there.

Thank you for the reply. It works well with my iPhone 12. I was just wondering if there was something I was missing.

In regards to the cameras not accessing anymore, I need to see what they are doing different than the one that does work. I am sure it was a setting that automatically changed on the cameras. All were working fine until a week or so ago. Just odd as everything I throw at the WAX 620 connects.

I see a lot of posts on the WAX product. I will search to see what is up to learn more.

It's a fast developing technology on the client and AP ends.

Head to Management - Monitoring - Logs. Be ready to download the detailed logs to be shared with Netgear using some public cloud for simplicity. RaghuHR or some other Netgear fellows will chime in here.
