Intermittent WAC730 WDS Bridge performance

I have two WAC730 APs (firmware 3.8.3.0) running in stand alone mode with WDS Bridge mode enabled on the 5GHz radios.

Router<--wired-->AP1<--WDS-->AP2

When I wirelessly connect to AP2, most of the time my pings to AP1 and/or my router are okay (<20ms), but sometimes they will jumped up to over 1000ms. What are some tweaks I can apply to the wireless settings to help increase their stability? Is it possible to run a wireless site survey with these or how do I select the best channels?

  • Not much to update other than I switched back to my Unifi APs for a while and now recently tried the ProSafe units again. I factory reset the two WAC730s, deployed the WC7500 and provisioned the same two WAC730s. Using the controller is a much better experience. No waiting for APs to reboot after every configuration change etc.

    Hi m_elias,

    Let us isolate the problem.  Kindly answer the questions below:

    a. How are the 2 WAC730 APs deployed? Are they hanging on a side wall or attached to the ceiling?

    b. Is there a line-of-sight between the the 2 WAC730 APs?

    c. How far are the 2 WAC730 APs from each other?

    d. Are there any other wireless networks present within the location of the 2 WAC730 APs?

    The NETGEAR Wi-Fi Analytics Android app can be used to identify the local networks surrounding you and determine which channels are congested and which are lesser used. Also,  other tools are available depending on your operating system such as inSSIDer

      Additionally what DaneA asked please check the following :-

      1. Are you running any Traffic when the delay occurs i.e- this delay you observe when certain type of traffic is on the network? like streaming, multicast etc.

      2. Packet capture from brtrunk interface when the issue occurs.

      3. Please download the detailed logs from the monitoring page and send us to debug.

      Thanks,

      Raghu

    The 2 WAC730 APs are sitting upright on tables, 30-40ft apart with LoS. There are some other wireless networks present but their signal is weak.

    There is only light, mobile device browsing that I know of. I will try to save the logs sometime when I notice an issue.
