WAC120 WiFi turning off...

My first time working with the WAC120, and I have an odd problem.

I purchased 17 of these units for two hotels.  All 17 units configured identically (two different networks, of course).  12 of the units function perfectly, but 5 of them are turning off WiFi after about 90 seconds.

I've double (and triple) checked all settings in all units, tried turning them off and on, tried pulling the plug for a minute, same thing.  Scheduling is disabled, and I'm at a loss.  When turned on, the units work perfectly for approximately 90 seconds, then the WiFi light goes out and of course no more connection.

I've seen a couple similar issues searching the forums, but no solution to this particular problem.  Just wondered if anyone might have any ideas.  I haven't checked logs yet, that's tomorrow's first job, but hoped I might get some ideas before then.

Thanks...

  • Hi JustANetMan,

    Welcome to the community! :)

    Kindly answer the questions below:

    a. What is the current firmware version of the 5 WAC120 that has problems?

    b. Have you tried to perform a factory reset then reconfigure it from scratch on the 5 WAC120 that has problems?

I look forward to your response.

      Hi DaneA,

      Thanks.

I'm just headed in for the day, won't be able to answer your question on firmware till this evening.  But I will try a factory reset on those units and see how that goes.

When I do an install like this, I usually set the access points up in the router room so I can test them directly before deploying, but it's only a 30 second test so I didn't see the problem till they were in use.

I'll be pulling these five units and working with them back in the router room, so I'll get the firmware version, and update if I find a newer version online.  And I'll also try the reset.  I'll post the results here later tonight.

      Thanks again...

        DaneA,

I checked the firmware version of the units and it was at 2.0.3, and the latest version I found online was 2.0.7.

I upgraded the firmware on a unit, and reset to factory defaults, then reconfigured again.  This seemed to solve the problem, so I repeated for each of the units I was having trouble with.  Then decided I should do it for the other 12 that were working fine.

I say it 'seemed' to solve the problem, because though the radios are always active now, I sometimes still can't connect to the units - or finally connect with limited access (no internet).  This is intermittent, and repeated attempts to connect will sometimes work.  Not sure about this yet.

I'm still puzzled, though, why 12 of the 17 worked great from the beginning without the firmware updates and resets.  They were (are) solid, had (have) exceptional distance, and had (have) no issues.

In any case, with the exception of the intermittent connections on some units, they're up and working now.  Thanks for the thought on the firmware updates...
