WAX610 wifi slower in same room, than another router behind concrete wall
I just installed a WAX610 access point in a room that was getting slower wifi speeds than I had hoped. But I'm consistently getting double the speed connecting to an Actiontec router in the next room...

In fact an old problem - there are still clients in the field which fail to even discover WiFi 6 APs and/or Mesh enabled (802.11k/v) over the air.

As I said above... Sometimes (for a test) disabling AX on the access point, limiting it to AC only can give some insight.

2.4GHz vs 5Ghz). Very confusing why only one computer cannot see this Netgear AP's broadcasting networks. Hmm.
Computer vendors are very lazy in offering current drivers for their systems on their download pages, no matter if it's Asus, Dell, HP, ... They hope Microsoft does it, but here we still see outdated driers for several adapter chipset makers.
Provide details about the exact adapter make/model - we can't help otherwise.
For Intel adapters, head here -> Intel® Driver & Support Assistant

Thanks schumaku .
My wifi adapter is the ASUS PCE-N15 11n PCI-E card, on an ASUS motherboard (P82Z77-M Pro), and windows says it's the latest driver. The Asus website most recent driver is actually older than the one currently installed.
I did use the Intel Driver assistant, which did not make any suggestions for updates.
I do not see a way to disable AX or force AC on this device (at least through the insight app), but I'm off to research.

Probably a Realtek RTL8188CE - not a very fancy "new" driver due the very legacy status of these (sorry: outdated) adapters: https://www.realtek.com/en/component/zoo/category/rtl8188ee-software

schumaku Thanks for your efforts
I installed the driver using the installation utility, rebooted, no change. The tried to update the drive manually by pointing to the downloaded folder and says I have the best driver. It's dated 3/31/2016 and the "provider" is microsoft.
However, it certainly seems that the problem is not the access point, but rather simply an old network adaptor using the newly named "wifi 4", that's failing the presumably backwards compatability capability of wifi 6 due to no recent drivers. Yes, the card is 8 years old. I have upgraded almost everything on this gaming machine, but have never had a need to update the wifi adapter! :)
My remaining solutions are thus:
1) Use ethernet (I just hate cables if I have no need for them, since my wifi could be faster than the 75/75 up/down I'm paying for lol)
2) If wifi, use the old wifi router which is still connected and which this network adapter does indeed see
3) Buy a new wifi adapter!
4) Run the new access point in ac mode. But it seems I need to use the broswer-based GUI in order to do so, and for the life of me I can't figure out the username and password, despite carefully reading the manual, and carefully following the instructions that note that the if I've already set a new password through the Insight app (YES), then the web-based password is the same (with "admin" as the username). I don't think I want to spend any more time trying to figure this out, and besides my lockout period is now 80 minutes. :)
Anyway, thanks so much.
