Wifi Repeater, brand unknow connection to WAC510

Hi All,

I have bought a Wifi Repeater and what this to repeat the wifi out of the accespoint Netgear wac510.

I get the Wifi Repeater connected to the network of the accespoint, but it is not able to connect to the internet through this network.

I check if the wifi repeater works, i connected it through the original wifi network and with the ethernetcable, both worked just fine, so it is not the repeater.

It is the interaction between repeater and the wac510.

Anyone able the help me?

Make, model, firmware version ... please?

All this proofs is that this repeater works as an access point. In repeater/extender mode, we don't talk of a simple bridge with these crappy wireless extenders.

Such an extender does connect like yet another wireless client to the WAC510.

Each wireless client associated to an repeater/extender does again - typically with a translated MAC address - make the WAC510 believe it's yet another wireless client.

Following your logic, please allow me to state that the WAC510 works as intended, because it allows to connect the (same) wireless clients, too.

Typical reasons why extenders not allow to reach the other AP LAN and the Internet are with incomplete pairing and initial association.

Typical reasons why APs like the WAC510 don't allow devices coming in over an extender is because of technology differences, configuration, and to strict security (like MAC flters to allow the LAN and Internet access).

The good thing on the WAC510 is that management: Monitoring Logs has an informative Log which might help finding reasons.

Last but not least, the WAC510 does still receive firmware updates, see here. Which version is installed on yours?

Depending on the extender brand, we either move this thread to the WiFi Range Extenders & Nighthawk Mesh or the Business Wireless section here in the community. If this isn't a Netgear

To be honest, it is not the most expensive repeater, unbranded:

I had the Acces updated to the latest Firmware: 9.5.5.4

btw: i had the Repeater connected via cable to the access piont and that worked, than I took out the cable and let the "wifi module run" and i still had internet, but after like 5 min it stopped working.

Follow the Installation Manual mentioned for connecting the device to the WAC510. Somehow the device mutst be configured for the SSID/network name, security key (WPA2-PSK), so it knows the SSID you intend to extend from the WAC510  8-)

Once done so and restarted, the extender is supposed to show up as a connected device, and it might have (if there is some IP and Web UI) received an IP config from your router/DHCP.

        Digging in the dark....
