Anywhere Access using the nighthawk app does not work for R7000P wifi router?

I have the Netgear R7000P wifi router and CM600 cable modem. I recently downloaded the Nighthawk iPhone app. I can easily connect to the router locally using the app, but when I attempt to enable Anywhere Access in the app, I get an error message: "something went wrong, sorry about this. Please try again." Everything else in the app seems to be functioning properly. I tried rebooting both the router and the iPhone, which made no difference. Anyone?

I used the netgear app to update to the latest fw, and the app confirmed that I am using the latest fw. BUT, when I look up the latest fw in netgear support, as suggested by another responder, it turns out that I DO NOT have the latest fw. If I really want the latest fw, apparently I have to download it from support and then install it. In other words, the app/GUI tells me that I have the latest fw, when in fact I do not.

I couldn't agree with you more. Netgear's firmware update system is nuts.

That is why a regular question here asks for the firmware version, the number, because claims of "the latest" can be bogus.

What Firmware version is currently loaded?

What version of the app do you have loaded?

Are you able to connect locally with the app?

I see more recent version of FW available:

        https://www.netgear.com/support/product/R7000P.aspx#download

I would sign out of the NH app fully. Log out.
Update the FW on the router. Factory reset and setup from scratch using a wired PC and web browser. Once the router is setup again, Try logging into the NH app and see if Anywhere Access is enabled. Should be by default.
