Netgear app is crap

I just want to reconnect a scanner to my network.  I've spent about two hours chasing Netgear's helpfully circular links to try to reset my admin password- the biometric marker apparently just records that you are "admin," but doesn't log you in-- and then finally got into the app, only to find there's no clear way to allow a wireless device to join the network.  When I tried to get more information about adding a device, the app requires me to login to my netgear account.  When I enter that information into the login screen on the app, it fails because there is "no internet connection."

Quite a surprise, as the phone is connected to the router which is connected to the internet and everything else, including the other apps on the phone, can access the internet.

Netgear is wholeheartedly adopting Apple's "walled garden" approach to product management, and it sucks.

  • 1. what router do you have?

    2. what firmware is on it?

    3. what modem/gateway is it connected to?

    4. you shouldn't need to log into the app/router to connect a wireless device to it. You can do it with the ssid/password

Thank you for responding.  I wasn't hoping for advice, just venting.

I've been trying to connect an ancient HP all-in-one that we use for scanning.

The router is a Nighthawk X6 AC3200.  I can't check anything else about it because the Nighthawk app keeps requiring me to log in to this Netgear account to use the app, and it just doesn't go through.  (App on my phone; I'm on my computer.)

I'm trying to connect an HP 3054 all in one, which has two way of connecting to a network- WPS button or by PIN.  The Nighthawk X6 does not have a WPS button, and I could not-- during the brief when the Nighthawk app was letting me use it as "admin"-- find any way on the app to enter a PIN code for a device that was trying to join my network.

I think I can get the printer back on line by borrowing a laptop and using a cable to connect it through the laptop, but that's kludgy and really makes this much harder than it should be.  On the plus side, the router delivers very a fast connection.

      Got in, finally.

Gateway is 24.24.174.96, firmware is v1.0.4.84.

So, I just went to RTFM, and it looks like there is an LED on the top of the router that is a WPS button.  Huh.  It would have been great if any of the Nighthawk support docs I looked at mentioned that it has a WPS button....

Going to go see if this works...
