R6400 version: 1.0.1.46

My R6400 is enabled "Remote Login" .

Step:

1. Disable wifi from my cellular phone

2. Enable mobile network

3. Use Nighthawk app to look for my router (failed)

Don't be confused: The App based Remote Management is using a cloud system, it does - different from the Remote Login on the router settings - not open the management ports to the wild Internet.

Not all router models are allowing remote management using the Nighthawk App (earlier Genie App). However, I think your R6400 should alow to enable Remote Management while being connected to the local [W]LAN -> How do I enable or disable remote access on my router using the Nighthawk app?

Same Nightawk App functionality either way. No big impact on the performance.

Not sure what you want to ask here - yes, you can enable/disable this feature later.

  • I'm also experiencing problems with the remote management utility in the new Nighthawk app and cannot remotely manage my R7000 (which I checked to be sure has the latest firmware).

After doing the initial remote management setup in the Nighthawk app while at home and connected locally to my R7000, I thought I was all set.  After just going into the Nighthawk app and selecting the  'Connect Remotely' option, I get taken to a page listing my R7000 and it reports it as 'Disconnected'.  I know this is untrue because I'm watching live streamed footage from my Nest cams as I write this post.

What do I need to do to make the remote management functionality work in the Nighthawk app as it used to in the Genie app?

A little bit vague - again, to allow remote administration access for the App, it's not about enabling the [Advanced] -> [Advanced Setup] -> Remote Management (this is for a direct Web browser based access using the Netgear DDNS URL shown on that same page), much more you have to be with the mobile App on the same local WLAN, and then associtate it with the router:

How do I enable or disable remote access on my router using the Nighthawk app?

Once paired, and when away and opening the Nighthawk App it will fail on the local network, and then offer a [Connect Remotely] button.
