BT FTTC - Vigor 130 & XR500 no internet connection

Hi guys, first post unfortunately looking for help! Trying to setup a new system but having some issues, details below:

Provider - BT
Package - Halo 1 250MB FTTC
Modem - DrayTek Vigor 130
Router - Nighthawk XR500
Connection - ethernet

I have the Vigor130 set in bridge mode, that's the only setting I've changed as per this website link. This was difficult enough to do on its own. Even with my PC directly connected via ethernet to the modem the admin page kept dropping out continuously, very frustrating. Once bridge mode was activated I connected my XR500 and ran the setup wizard but it cannot connect an internet connection.

I've tried multiple factory resets and repeating steps etc. Not really sure what to try as it should be pretty plug and play. Anyone had similar issues with the same setup?

  • With BT, PPPoE (login) is sometimes required for an internet connection, do you know if you require this at all? If so you will need to input those details into Internet Setup before you can sustain a connection. Is there any way you can connect the XR500 to the Vigor without bridge mode or is that necessary?
  • Hi,

Did you resolve your issue as I am having a very similar problem with a different ISP Manx Telecom.

Modem connects fine over ADSL PPoA on its own.

Place Vigor in Bridge mode -> XR 500 in PPoE, failes with authentication error.

I've had to switch the XR500 into AP and pug it into my old Netgear router to use but not very happy with this currently.

What kind of error are you getting? Are you using Always Connect for PPPoE?

        Hi

I originally spotted an uthentication error in the logs, but there was so much information I didn't note down the detail.

I don't see it any more

My ISp is Manx Telecom. I connect over an ADSL2 line.

Previous router was a netgear DGN2200, no issues for many years.

        PPoA & "always on".

Netgear router is in Always on & PPoE.

Draytek Vigor is bridged mode (MPOA).

Wasn't sure how (if) the encapsulation should be set.

        • Bridged/routed IP LLC - (Default)
        • Bridged /routed IP VC-Mux (IPoA)
        • Bridged IPoE

        Cheers for response.
