Download speed halved, Upload from 18 Mbps to 1 or lower. XR500 or Vigor 130 issue?

Hello! I've had the XR500 and Vigor 130 just under a year now, a few hiccups along the way in terms of QoS but speeds have always been great (63 Down/18 Up) but within the past 3 weeks my speeds have dropped to between 31-43 Down and 1 or lower Up. No settings were changed prior to this. I contacted my ISP (Sky) who performed a line test and confirmed the line was fine, switching back to the Sky SR102 router had me back to 63 Down/18 Up.

Draytek haven't been super helpful via e-mail and before I have to contact them on Monday, I'd like to make certain it isn't the XR500 that has a problem.

Forgot to mention these are Wired speeds.

 Thanks!

  • Have you connected directly to the Draytek to see if the speeds are as expected? That would be the easiest way to determine if it was the router. Do that, assuming they're fine, what QoS settings are you using on the router?

to also go along with what Netduma-Fraser said, do you have the Virgo130 in bridge mode? or is it still in router mode?

When speedtesting, are you using the built in app or testing through the browser?

Netduma-FraserYeah I've connected directly to the Vigor 130 to see what's going on there, download speeds are fine but upload speeds are severely limited. Support told me to try and use the telnet command "vdsl snr -20" tried that and a few higher numbers but no difference. QoS I've tried a few different things as people in different threads have been told such as changing Anti-Buffer Bloat percentages, settings and even turning it off completely, again no difference. As plemans said, the Vigor 130 is in bridge mode and running a browser speed test is fine as is a mobile app speedtest, but using the actual Nighthawk app itself to run a speed test constantly starts and then fails saying there was an error, this is where uncertainty between the fault being with the XR500 or Vigor 130 comes up.

       Thanks for the replies guys!

so if you're testing the xr500 using the browser based or speedtest app, it tests fine?

That's what I'd trust over the built in speedtest. You can manually set your qos/speed settings in the XR500 for those instances where its own test isn't accurate.
